Seafood Importers and Processors Alliance
- Since
1977 and the first European wide seafood cholera scare we have seen
a greater involvement by the European Union in the individual
affairs of the member countries. The latest antibiotic crisis has
brought about a reaction by the EU authorities which is
unprecedented in our experience and has led to perhaps the greatest
challenges to our business with some companies even facing financial
ruin..........

European Commission - Fisheries - The Common Fisheries
Policy (CFP) is the European Union's instrument for the management
of fisheries and aquaculture. It was created to manage a common
resource and to meet the obligation set in the original Treaties of
the then European Community. Because fish are a natural and mobile
resource they are considered as common property. In addition, the
Treaties which created the Community stated that there should be a
common policy in this area, that is, common rules adopted at EU
level and implemented in all Member States.
The North Sea Commission Fisheries Partnership was founded
to promote co-operation between scientists and fishers in monitoring
and managing fisheries in the North Sea.

The Sea Fisheries
Department is a public research organisation, depending from
and supervised by the Ministry of the Flemish Community. The
Department was established in 1962 (albeit with a different name),
as one of the satellites of the Centre for Agricultural Research in
Ghent. Until 2001, this Centre was part of the federal Ministry of
Agriculture, Traders and Small Enterprises, but since 2002, it has
been re-assigned to the Flemish Government (one of the three
regional governments in the federalised State of Belgium). The Sea
Fisheries Department comprises four operational sections: Biology,
Monitoring, Fishing Gear Technology and Product Technology.
