General Fisheries
Commission for the Mediterranean - Consisting of 22 Member
countries along with the European Community, the GFCM’s objectives
are to promote the development, conservation, rational management
and best utilization of living marine resources, as well as the
sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean, Black
Sea and connecting waters. Membership is open to both Mediterranean
coastal states and regional economic organizations as well as to
United Nations member states whose vessels engage in fishing in
Mediterranean waters.
Western and Central
Pacific Fisheries Commission - Commission for the
Conservation and Management of Highly Migratory Fish Stocks in
the Western and Central Pacific Ocean
Fishery and Aquaculture Country Profile for Japan
- aquatic species caught by country or area, by species items, by
FAO major fishing areas, and year, for all commercial, industrial,
recreational and subsistence purposes. The harvest from mariculture,
aquaculture and other kinds of fish farming is also included.
Ministry
of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries - Agriculture,
forestry and fisheries industries, as an important sector of Japan's
economic structure, contribute outstandingly to the development of
national economy and stabilization of national life through their
role of providing stable supply of foods indispensable to our daily
life.
Japan International Food & Aquaculture Society (JIFAS) -
Japan International Food & Aquaculture Society.
Japan Fisheries Association - Established in 1882, the Japan
Fisheries Association is the umbrella organization for the entire
fishing industry of Japan. We have more than 400 members including
associations, private companies and individuals who contribute to
our operations. Our purpose is to promote the fishing industry and
contribute to the economic well-being and cultural heritage of our
country.
Tohoku National Fisheries Research Institute - Tohoku
National Fisheries Research Institute conducts research on fisheries
in the northern Pacific Ocean off the coast of Tohoku district. The
area is called the Mixed Water Region where warm current Kuroshio
and cold current Oyashio mix and form complex marine structures and
subsequently the area has a high fishery productivity. We research
the marine characteristics of the Mixed Water Region and mechanisms
of resource fluctuations to provide the latest information about
fishery resource management and promotion of fishery and aquaculture
production.
National Research Institute of Aquaculture - The demand for
fishery products has globally and rapidly increased with the
situation of the economic development in Asian countries and
health-oriented trend in Western countries, while the total volume
of fishery production in Japan has decreased. It is crucial not only
to manage fishery resources for avoiding their depletion but also to
promote positively stock enhancement in order to support and advance
the domestic fisheries industry and improve the self-sufficiency
rate. In addition, it is also important to develop aquaculture
industry that is able to provide efficiently safe and quality
fishery foods for domestic and world consumers. Thus, the National
Research Institute of Aquaculture (NRIA) aims at technically
contributing to “security for stable supply of fishery products” and
“development of wholesome fisheries industry”. In addition to basic
studies focusing on technology development for aquaculture, NRIA
promotes studies on resource management and conservation of
ecosystems in Kuroshio Current coastal zone and inland waters for
further advancement of aquaculture as well as coastal and inland
fisheries.
National Research Institute of Fisheries Engineering Fisheries
Agency - Since the establishment of National Research
Institute of Fisheries Engineering (NRIFE) in March 1979, we have
been focusing on advanced research for the development of fishing
industry aiming on sustainable supply of seafood to the national
market. NRIFE offers engineering solutions for the wide range of
problems in fisheries. We are going to keep this fundamental
standpoint and pursue our goal as a member of Fisheries Research
Agency (FRA) more effectively.
Inter
American Tropical Tuna Commission: The IATTC, established by
international convention in 1950, is responsible for the
conservation and management of fisheries for tunas and other species
taken by tuna-fishing vessels in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
