The northeast fish farmers association belong to 121 members
with more than 1,300 hectares of ponds. In most member
companies, the focus is on the production of carp. In
addition, other species of fish such as trout, pike and
tench are produced and marketed. The structure of the member
firms is very different, ranging from small fish farmers
with less than one thousand square meters pond surface to
farmed on large farms with about 150 hectares of pond area.
The operations of the Association members manage a total of
approximately 1,300 ha pond area, which is about 80% of the
total pond area in Lower Austria or about 50% of the total
pond area in Austria. Each year, about 400 tons of fish,
mainly carp, harvested. This corresponds to approximately
90% of the harvested and marketed in Lower Austria fish.
