Stripey Seaperch are also known as seaperch, Spanish flag fish, striped seaperch, stripey (Qld, WA, NT)

The Stripey varies in colour from red to golden brown, flushed with pink and carries ten or more narrow brownish yellow bands along the entire length of the fish, lengthwise.   The fins are yellow with a tinge of orange.

It can be found on the coral reefs of North Queensland and along the top end of Australia, it is also occasionally caught further south to around Moreton Bay in Queensland.

Habitat:  Saltwater and estuarine. Often caught near reefs, but some species more common on offshore trawling grounds

Fishing Angling for Stripey Seaperch:

Good bait for Stripeys is fresh fish, prawns or crabs. 

Cooking Stripey Seaperch:

Most seaperches have superb white flesh and a delicate, yet generous, flavour. They can be prepared in a wide range of ways including grilling, poaching, deep frying, shallow frying, baking and steaming.

Simple pan-frying allows for a range of different flavours and textures to be utilised. Seaperches are often large, but the smaller fish are excellent baked whole (gilled and gutted).

Microwave Cooking Times for Fish
- Fish fillets – 5 minutes per 500g on medium-high, +50 seconds more for thicker fillets, or until flesh flakes
- Whole fish - Large – 6 minutes/750g on medium
- Whole fish – Small – 3-4 minutes on medium

Commercial Fishing for Stripey Seaperch:

Usually taken by line and can occasionally be found in craypots.
